A BILL<br />

ENTITLED<br />

A LAW TO REGULATE THE RECEPTION OF BROADCASTING.<br />

BE it enacted by His ExceUency the Govemor and<br />

Commander-in-Chief of the Colony of <strong>Cyprus</strong> as<br />

follows ;—<br />

1. This Law may be cited as the Broadcasting (Reception) Short title.<br />

Law, 1936.<br />

2, In this Law, unless the context otherwise requires,— int«rpre-<br />

" broadcasting" means the issue of messages or<br />

communications by wireless telephony to owners of<br />

receiving sets and includes any such message or communication<br />

so issued;<br />

" interfering apparatus " means any electric machine,<br />

generator, motor, X-ray apparatus, apparatus used for<br />

medical purposes, or any electrical apparatus, equipment,<br />

or device of whatever kind which may generate waves<br />

Hkely to interfere with the reception of broadcasting;<br />

" receiving set" means any apparatus or equipment<br />

designed for the purpose of or capable of receiving<br />

communications sent out by broadcasting.<br />

3.—(1) No person shall instal, possess, use or maintain a No receiving<br />

receiving set without a receiving licence previously ^g^auS<br />

obtained from the Postmaster-General issued under the etc., without<br />

provisions of this Law upon payment of such fee as may be ^^^^^^e.<br />

prescribed by regulations:<br />

Provided that a Hcence shaU not be required—<br />

(a) by any person to whom a dealer in receiving sets<br />

has given such a set on approval for a period not<br />

exceeding seven days;<br />

(b) for any receiving set on board any vessel visiting<br />

the Colony;<br />

(c) where the receiving set is broken or defective and<br />

is sealed by the Postmaster-General in the manner<br />

prescribed by regulations.<br />

(2) <strong>The</strong> Governor may exempt any educational or<br />

charitable institution from the payment of a fee in respect<br />

of any Hcence granted to it under the provisions of this<br />

section.<br />

(3) A Hcence issued under sub-section (1) shall be for such<br />

period and shaU contain and be subject to such terms,<br />

conditions and restrictions as may be prescribed by<br />

regulations.<br />

4.—(1) No person shall seU or offer or expose for sale Dealers in<br />

or deal in, hire or let in the way of his business any receiving 2tf ^'"^<br />

set or any component part thereof unless he previously<br />

obtains a dealers' licence from the Postmaster-General<br />

issued under the provisions of this liaw upon payment of<br />

such fee as may be prescribed by regulations.<br />

(2) A Hcence issued under sub-section (1) shaU be for such<br />

period and shaU contain and be subject to such terms,<br />

conditions and restrictions as may be prescribed by<br />

regulations.<br />

(3) A Hcence issued under sub-section (1) shall confer<br />

upon the holder the right to instal, possess, use and<br />

maintain upon his business premises any number of receiving<br />

sets without obtaining any further Hcence.<br />
