No. 1189. <strong>The</strong> PubUc Rivers Protection<br />

Law, 1930.<br />

NOTIFICATION.<br />

1. Wliereas the portion of the public river Pedias,<br />

in the District of Nicosia, beginning at the ford<br />

adjoining the Nicosia Tannery (plot No. 250, plan<br />

No. XXI/38), where the river is crossed by the road<br />

lying to the south of the Nicosia Golf Course, northwards<br />

for a distance of 1,860 feet approximately and<br />

ending at a line which is a straight line continuation<br />

of the northern boundary of plot No. 285 of the same<br />

plan to the right bank of the said river, as shown<br />

coloured red on the plan dated 5th October, 1936, filed<br />

in M.P. No. 244/28 in the office of the Commissioner<br />

of Nicosia, has been declared by the Pedias River<br />

(Protection) Order, 1936, to be a river for the purposes<br />

of the Public Rivers Protection Law, 1930, it is hereby<br />

notified that the removal of shingle from the bed,<br />

bank or wall of the portion of the river aforesaid is<br />

hereby prohibited.<br />

2. <strong>The</strong> attention of the public is drawn to the<br />

provisions of the Public Rivers Protection Law, 1930,<br />

under which any person acting in contravention of<br />

a notification issued thereunder, is liable to imprisonment<br />

not exceeding one month or to a fine not exceeding<br />

five pounds.<br />
