Ho, 618. The Hotels Law, 1935.
HOTELS BOARD.
With reference to Notification No. 1199, published
in the Cyprus Gazefte No. 2469 of the Uth October,
1935, it is hereby notified that in exercise of the
powers vested in him by the Hotels Law, 1935, His
Excellency the Governor has been pleased to appoint
M. Aziz Eff., M.B.E., Chief Sanitary Inspector, to be
a member of the Hotels Board, with effect from the
19th June, 1936. (M.P. 673/30/3.)
No. 619. The Antiquities Law, 1935.
DISTRICT MUSEUMS.
In'exercise of the powers vested in him by the
Antiquities Law, 1935, His Excellency the Governor
has been pleased to establish the premises situated
within the precincts of Ayios Lazaros Church at
Larnaca, formerly known as the Local Museum at
Lamaca, to be a District Museum of Larnaca under
the provisions of the said Law. (M.P. 875/36.)
No. 620. Govemment English Examinations.
SET BOOKS.
It is hereby notified that from the 1st January,
1937, and until further notice, the following books
will be required for the English Examinations :—
Ordinary.
Reading Books : (a) For intensive reading.
Reader 5. (New Method Readers.)
(b) For general reading.
" The Cloister and the Hearth."
(New Method Series; Second
Supplementary Reader No. 4.)
both published by Longmans Green & Co.
NOTES—
(a) In the book set for intensive study candidates
will be expected to show a knowledge
not only of the subject matter but also of
the vocabulary and idiom used. A piece of
dictation based on this book will be set.
(b) From the book set for general reading
questions will be set to ascertain whether the
pupil has read and understood the book
(e.g. questions on subject matter and context
questions).
Grammar: As for 1936. The paraphrase set will
be of simple verse.
Distinction.

excluding all ballad poetry and biographical

The exercises in this book will be used as a

be set.

NO books are set for this examination. For the
paper on English Idioms candidates are advised to
