A LAW TO AMEND THE LAW REGULATING THE ACQUISITION<br />

OF IMMOVABLE PROPERTY BY ALIENS.<br />

RE it enacted by His ExceUency the Governor and<br />

Commander-in-Chief of the Colony of <strong>Cyprus</strong> as<br />

follows:—<br />

1. This Law may be cited as the Immovable Property short utie.<br />

Acquisition (Aliens) Amendment Law, 1936, and shall be<br />

read as one with the Immovable Property Acquisition<br />

(Aliens) Law, 1936, (hereinafter called "thePrincipal Law"), ii of i936.<br />

and the Principal Law and this Law may together be cited<br />

as the Immovable Property Acquisition (Aliens) Laws, 1936.<br />

2. Sub-section (3) of section 4 of the Principal Law is Repeal of<br />

hereby repealed and the following sub-section substituted ^fLaw If if<br />

« therefor:— i936 and<br />

" (3) Any regulations made under this section may of new<br />

enable the Governor to exempt, in such manner as the sub-section.<br />

regulations may prescribe, any ahen or class of aliens<br />

from the operation of such regulations and of the proviso<br />

to section 5."<br />

Objects and Reasons.<br />

By section 4 (1) of the Principal Law the Governor in<br />

Council is empowered to make regulations prescribing the<br />

minimum size of plots into which an ahen may sub-divide<br />

his immovable property for the purpose of sale.<br />

2. Section 5 of the Principal Law saves the right of an<br />

alien to acquire from another ahen immovable property<br />

which such other alien had lawfully acquired, but under the<br />

proviso to that section where such property has been subdivided<br />

into plots for the purpose of sale such plots must<br />

be of the minimum size prescribed by the regulations.<br />

3. <strong>The</strong> object of this Law is to give power to the<br />

Governor in CouncU to make provision in the regulations<br />

enabling the Governor to exempt any ahen or class of aUens<br />

from the operation of such regulations and of the proviso<br />

to section 5.<br />
