TO
THE CYPRUS (GAZETTE No. 2497 OF 21 sr FEBRUARY, 1936,
A BILL
ENTITLED
A LAW TO AMEND THE CYPRUS PENSIONS ORDERS IN
COUNCIL, 1929 AND 1931.
BE it enacted by His Excellency the Govemor and
Commander-in-Chief of the Colony of Cyprus as
follows:—
1. This Law may be cited as the Cyprus Pensions Order short titio.
in Council, 1929, (Amendment) Law, 1936, and shall be
read as one with the Cyprus Pensions Orders in Council,
1929 and 1931, (hereinafter called "the Order"), and the
Order and this Law may together be cited as the Cyprus
Pensions Orders and Law, 1929 to 1936.
2. Section 5 of the Order is hereby repealed and the Repeal of
following section substituted therefor:— th? olii'er^

to compensation for past services or to pension, new section.
gratuity or other allowance; nor shall an^iihing
in this Order contained limit the right of the
Crown to dismiss any officer without compensation.
(2) Where it is established to the satisfaction
of the Governor in Coimcil that an officer has
been guilty of negligence, irregularity or misconduct,
the pension, gratuity or other allowance
mav be reduced or altogether mthheld."
Objects and Reasons.
Under seetion 5 (2) of the Cyprus Pensions Order in
Coimcil, 1920, pro\ision was made for the issue of a
certificate of service with diligence and tidelity as a
condition of the a\A'ard of a pension, gratuity or other
allo\\ ance, while under section 5 (3) thereof the reduction
or withdra\\al of the same required the approval of the
Secretary of !^tate. The object of this Bill is to dispense
with the above-mentioned requirements.
