A BILL<br />

ENTITLED<br />

A LAW TO AMEND THE CYPRUS PENSIONS ORDERS IN<br />

COUNCIL, 1929 AND 1931.<br />

BE it enacted by His Excellency the Govemor and<br />

Commander-in-Chief of the Colony of <strong>Cyprus</strong> as<br />

follows:—<br />

1. This Law may be cited as the <strong>Cyprus</strong> Pensions Order short titio.<br />

in Council, 1929, (Amendment) Law, 1936, and shall be<br />

read as one with the <strong>Cyprus</strong> Pensions Orders in Council,<br />

1929 and 1931, (hereinafter called "the Order"), and the<br />

Order and this Law may together be cited as the <strong>Cyprus</strong><br />

Pensions Orders and Law, 1929 to 1936.<br />

2. Section 5 of the Order is hereby repealed and the Repeal of<br />

following section substituted therefor:— th? olii'er^<br />

to compensation for past services or to pension, new section.<br />

gratuity or other allowance; nor shall an^iihing<br />

in this Order contained limit the right of the<br />

Crown to dismiss any officer without compensation.<br />

(2) Where it is established to the satisfaction<br />

of the Governor in Coimcil that an officer has<br />

been guilty of negligence, irregularity or misconduct,<br />

the pension, gratuity or other allowance<br />

mav be reduced or altogether mthheld."<br />

Objects and Reasons.<br />

Under seetion 5 (2) of the <strong>Cyprus</strong> Pensions Order in<br />

Coimcil, 1920, pro\ision was made for the issue of a<br />

certificate of service with diligence and tidelity as a<br />

condition of the a\A'ard of a pension, gratuity or other<br />

allo\\ ance, while under section 5 (3) thereof the reduction<br />

or withdra\\al of the same required the approval of the<br />

Secretary of !^tate. <strong>The</strong> object of this Bill is to dispense<br />

with the above-mentioned requirements.<br />
