IMPORTATION or RAGS AND OLD CLOTHING.<br />

With reference to paragraph 4 of the Order in<br />

CouncU No. 1704, made under the Customs Law,<br />

1936, pubUshed in the <strong>Gazette</strong> No. 2537 of the 14th<br />

September, 1936, it is hereby notified for general<br />

information that the importation into <strong>Cyprus</strong><br />

of rags and old clothing is prohibited except under<br />

the foUowing conditions :—<br />

1. AppUcations for Ucence to import rags and<br />

old clothing, intended for personal use or for<br />

sale, shaU be addressed to the Director of<br />

Medical Services stating :<br />

(a) in the case of old clothing—the nature,<br />

quaUty and quantity of clothing and the<br />

country of origin, and<br />

(6) in the case of rags—the quantity, country<br />

of origin and proposed use of the rags<br />

following importation.<br />

2. That the goods are landed only at the ports<br />

of Famagusta, Lamaca and Limassol.<br />

3. That they are accompanied by a certificate<br />

deUvered by the competent sanitary officer of<br />

the port of exportation to the eflfect that the<br />

goods in question have been properly disinfected<br />

or deloused prior to shipment.<br />

4. That the goods so imported shall be<br />

subjected to such disinfection as the Port Medical<br />

Officer may direct to be carried out at the risk<br />

of the importer.<br />

5. <strong>The</strong> disinfection fee to be 15s. per ton or<br />

part thereof.<br />

6. AppUcations for Ucence to import rags and<br />

old clothing from areas declared infected with<br />

either Plague, SmaUpox, Typhus or Cholera<br />

TriU not be considered.<br />

<strong>The</strong> attention of the public is invited to the<br />

Notiiication made on the 10th October, 1936, by<br />

His Excellency the Governor pursuant to the<br />

-Quarantine Law, 1932, and pnblished in the <strong>Cyprus</strong><br />

<strong>Gazette</strong> of the 16th October, 1936, whereby it was<br />

declared that the following local areas were infected<br />

would be subject to the measures prescribed by the<br />

Quarantine Regulations, 1932, with respect to the<br />

dangerous infectious diseases set forth against each<br />
