It is hereby notified for general informati(Bi
that on and from the lai of January, 1937,
Private Poet Office Boxea may be rented under the
following ccMiditions at the {wincipal Post Offices
in the Colony. The renter will forfeit all rights by
non-compliance or failure to carry out any or all
of th© conditions hereinafter set forth, and will be
held responsible for the observance of the conditions,
and no other person wiU be recognized in
connection therewith.
CONDITIONS OF RENTAL.
(a) The aimual rent is £1 for a small box and
£1. lOs.Oji. for » large box. Tke rant is payabk
in advance, and calculated firom the beginning
of any calendar quarter to the Slst December in
each year, any portion of a calendar quarter being
considered as a fuU quarter. In the case of
boxes at any summer resort offices the rent i»
payable monthly in advance, any portion of a
month being considered as a full month.
(6) When the rental of a box expiree and
payment for its renewal is not made within twelve
days (or three days in the case of summer resort
offices), the renter wiU forfeit his right to the box,
which mav then be re-let by the Postmaster-
General.
(c) When a box is rented two keys wiU be
suppUed and an amount of 7s. 4Jp., in addition to
the rent of the box, \^ill be deposited by the renter.
\Vhen the box is given up the amount deposited
will be refimded to the renter, provided that the
box and lock are in good ordw. and that the two
original keys for the box ore retumed. Otherwise
tlie deposit will be forfeited.
(d) DeUvery into a private boxis in all respects
equivalent to personal deUvery to the addressee.
(e) A box must be taken for a particular address ;
and postal packets for deUvery therein should,
in addition to the number of the box, bear the
fuD address. Postal packets bearing as an only
address a Post Office Box number wiU be treated
as insufficiently addressed and not deUvered.
(f) Persons may not rent a private box under a
fictitious name, or for improper purposes.
(g) The businesa or private address of the renter
must be fumished.
(h) Persons or firms trading under two or more
designations may be required to rent a IJOX for
each designation. Under this regulation any
group of companies havinir a joint management
may be reqmred to rent a separate box for each
company.
(i) Several persons wiU not be permitted to
share in one box. Thc use of each box is resti icted
to the indi\-idual, firm, or bona fide empioyees
or residents of the house to whom or to w':ich it
may be assigned. A person not being a iciiter,
whose correspondence is addressed to a box,
can only obtain such by means of the , or
through the renter.

The hours for access to wooden boxes, whei ^uch
are installed, will be made known to the IA ers.

(k) Correspondence mis-sorted or errooeoosly
addressed to a wrong box must be immediately
re-posted with the words " not for Box No. . . ."
written thereon. Should a case come under
notioe where this is not done, or where flagrant
neglect is shown by the r^iter, w person in possession
ai the key, in detaining or delaying such
correspondence the box may be declared forfeited
and thc retum of the keys demanded.
(/) Unless the renter be weU-known, or can be
identified by some one known to a responsible
officer of the Department, the only admitted
" proof of identification" shall be the receipt
for the rent of the box.
(m) A box is for use exclusively for the reception
of correspondence which has passed through the
post. Any other articles placed therein by the
renter will be surcharged as if posted out of course.
(n) In exceptional circumstances—such as the
loss of a key. for instanee—eorreepondence from
any box may temporarily be deUvered at the
counter subject to compUance with the provisions
of condition (I).
(o) ^Vhen a key of a box is lost, or the lock is
broken, on receipt of Is. 4|p. in cash a new lock
and keys will be suppUed. // a key be lost it is
essential for the security of the correspondence thai
a new lock be fitted to the box.
(p) No lock, other than that suppUed by the
Department, shaU be placed on any box; and no
repairs to a box, lock or keys may be executed
except by the Department.
(q) The renter of a box must defray aU expenses
for damage to such box or to the lock or keys
thereof, if caused by him or dufiTto his neghgence.
A renter giving up or forfeiting his box wiU be held
responsible for the due return of the keys originaUy
suppUed.
(r) No box will l)e granted to any person who
from any cause (non-payment of rent excepted)
has previously forfeited his right to a box.
(s) Transfer of a box in the same town from one
person to another, or frGca one town to another,
if th© renter changes his residence permanently,
Avill be permitted only with the sanction of the
Postmaster-General.
(t) The Postmaster-General may refuse to let
or re-let a box to any person -without a-ssigning
any reason for such refusal.
(u) The Post Office takes no responsibiUty for
any delay to correspondence occasioned by the
use of private boxes.
2. The foregoing conditions may at any time
be augmented or revised, as may from time to
time be deemed expedknt, by notificatioii in
tlKB Cyprus Gazette; ajMi auy sucn addition or
revision shaU apply to every box rented under the
foregoing conditions.
3. Post Office Notice dated the 21st March,
1924, pubUshed under Notification No. 180 in the
Cyprus Gazette No. 1630 of the 28th March, 1924,
is hereby canceUed as from the lst January, 1937.
