Some problems can develop during fairing if you use<br />

Douglas fir plywood. As explained earlier, sanded fir<br />

plywood panels can be very uneven. Softer summer<br />

wood sands more easily than harder winter wood, so<br />

dishing results and becomes worse with more sanding.<br />

<str<strong>on</strong>g>The</str<strong>on</strong>g> <strong>on</strong>ly soluti<strong>on</strong>s are to keep sanding to a minimum<br />

and to use sharp hand planes for most of the fairing.<br />

We suggest that all exterior fir plywood surfaces be<br />

covered with fiberglass cloth and epoxy.
