The role of artists in <strong>learning</strong> communities°<br />

This project aims to show best practise and raise awareness and understanding of the processes involved in successfully<br />

negotiating and implementing public and socially engaged art. This will be achieved over three years and will involve<br />

active participation of professional artists, arts educators, learners and staff from each organisation through a research<br />

programme participatory contextual art projects, seminars and workshops. This partnership of higher educational<br />

institutions and organisations engaged in contextual arts practice aims to:<br />

• Develop strategic links between formal and non-formal education providers<br />

• Conduct research into best practise in the domain of art and society and the developing role of the artist in this<br />

context<br />

• Develop quality criteria for maintaining and improving professional standards<br />

• Be instrumental in combating social exclusion on a social and cultural level<br />

• Identify models of good and innovative practice nationally and internationally<br />

• Create a module descriptor that will accredit <strong>learning</strong> associated with project activities<br />

• Promoting professional contextual arts practise through education, information and research<br />

• Integrate different communities<br />

• Provide opportunities for <strong>learning</strong> experiences in art and environment projects<br />
