Let me begin by extending my best wishes to all our Nunavik
beneficiaries and express on behalf of the Board of Directors,
Executive and staff our appreciation for your continued support
and confidence. I also offer a warm welcome to those who continue
to demonstrate a keen interest in the Makivik Corporation and our
subsidiary companies.
Our mandate is broad in its application, but straightforward in
its vision. It is to protect the rights and interests of Nunavik Inuit –
rights that were confirmed through the signing of the 1975 James
Bay and Northern Québec Agreement (JBNQA) with the Government of
Canada and the Province of Québec. Paramount in that mandate is
exercising control, management and administration of the financial
compensation provided in this historic agreement.
For me personally, this annual report comes at a very important
juncture, it coincides with the conclusion of my first term as
President, and the beginning of the next leg of our shared journey.
Our mandate is very specific in our obligation to protect the
financial interests of Nunavik Inuit. We are committed to ensure
the monies we receive both from the JBNQA and the Nunavik Inuit
Land Claims Agreement (NILCA), as well as the investments in our
subsidiary companies continue to grow and provide a sound financial
base for all of our initiatives and endeavours both now and for
future generations.
In that regard, I am pleased to report that our financial restructuring
continues. We believe the difficult cut backs, layoffs, and
other cost cutting measures from a few years back are behind us.

Je tiens tout d’abord à saluer les bénéficiaires du Nunavik, et à
exprimer au nom du conseil de direction, du Bureau et du personnel
de Makivik notre gratitude pour le soutien et la confiance qu’ils
nous accordent. Je salue également chaleureusement toutes les
personnes qui démontrent un vif intérêt envers Makivik et ses filiales.
Notre mandat est vaste, mais il s’appuie sur une vision très claire.
Nous devons protéger les droits et les intérêts des Inuits du Nunavik
énoncés dans la Convention de la Baie-James et du Nord québécois
(CBJNQ) signée en 1975 avec les gouvernements du Canada et du
Québec, et gérer prudemment l’indemnité financière versée en
contrepartie de cet accord historique.
Le présent rapport marque un moment charnière pour moi, car
il coïncide avec la fin de mon premier mandat, et le début d’une
nouvelle étape au cours de laquelle nous continuerons de cheminer
ensemble.
Notre mandat est très clair concernant la protection des intérêts
financiers des Inuits du Nunavik. Nous sommes résolus à faire en
sorte que les montants reçus en vertu de la CBJNQ et de l’Accord
sur les revendications territoriales des Inuit du Nunavik, ainsi que
les revenus provenant de nos filiales continuent à fructifier pour
fournir une solide assise financière pour l’ensemble de nos initiatives
et projets présents et futurs.
À cet égard, je suis heureux d’annoncer que notre restructuration
financière se poursuit, mais que les coupes difficiles, les mises à pied
et les autres mesures de réduction des coûts des dernières années
