of whom are appointed by the Government of Québec and two
members appointed by Makivik and KRG will be reactivated in
the coming year in order to identify the needs of the region and
recommend new priorities, each year, in order to ensure projects
funded by Ungaluk have an impact on:
1. Preventing and combating crime
2. Promoting safe and healthy communities
3. Providing assistance to crime victims
4. Improving correctional services for Inuit
With regards to the Ungaluk team, Sarah Airo was hired as
Coordinator in August 2014 and she is based in Kuujjuaq. There
are three program officers based in Salluit, Kuujjuaq and Inukjuak.
A senior consultant also assists with the implementation of the
new program and builds the staff capacity.
The newly revised Ungaluk program is very promising. Makivik
will monitor its implementation and impact and will work closely
with the promoters to assess the challenges and continuously
improve the program. The region needs Ungaluk to be efficient
and to achieve its objectives.
Le premier appel de propositions dans le cadre du programme
révisé a été lancé à l’automne 2014.
D’autres changements seront apportés au programme. Le comité
d’experts composé de huit membres (quatre nommés par le Québec,
deux par Makivik et deux par l’ARK) sera réactivé au cours de la
prochaine année. Il aura pour mandat d’identifier les besoins de la
région et de formuler des recommandations afin que les projets
financés dans le cadre d’Ungaluk aient pour but de :
1. Prévenir et combattre la criminalité;
2. Promouvoir des communautés saines et sécuritaires;
3. Fournir de l’assistance aux victimes de crimes;
4. Améliorer les services correctionnels offerts aux Inuits.
Sarah Airo a été embauchée à titre de coordonnatrice d’Ungaluk
en août 2014. Son bureau est situé à Kuujjuaq. Elle collabore avec
trois agents de programme basés à Salluit, Kuujjuaq et Inukjuak.
Une personne-ressource d’expérience appuie la mise en œuvre du
nouveau programme et contribue au renforcement des capacités
de l’équipe.
Ce nouveau programme s’annonce très prometteur. Makivik
assurera le suivi de sa mise en œuvre et de ses retombées en étroite
collaboration avec les promoteurs afin d’évaluer les défis et d’améliorer
le programme de manière constante. La région a besoin d’un
programme Ungaluk efficace et capable d’atteindre ses objectifs.
