Nunavik Research Centre<br />
The Nunavik Research Centre (NRC), which is located at the <strong>Makivik</strong><br />
Corporation head office in Kuujjuaq is involved with studies related<br />
to the environment and country foods used by Nunavik Inuit. The<br />
Centre employs a director, an analytic toxicologist, a parasitologist,<br />
a wildlife biologist, three wildlife technicians as well as a fisheries<br />
biologist who was hired this past Fall.<br />
Trichinella nativa<br />
Since the beginning of <strong>2014</strong> thirty-five walrus from Nunavik and<br />
Nunavut were tested for Trichinella nativa and they were all but one<br />
were negative. The table above shows the results for the season.<br />
Barrie Ford, Michael K.H. Kwan, Peter May, Sandy Suppa, Audrey<br />
Lepenna and Manon Simard participated in a training session on<br />
Centre de recherche du Nunavik<br />
Le Centre de recherche du Nunavik (CRN), situé au siège social<br />
de <strong>Makivik</strong> à Kuujjuaq, participe à de nombreuses recherches<br />
concernant l’environnement et les aliments traditionnels consommés<br />
par les Inuits du Nunavik. Le personnel du centre est composé d’un<br />
directeur, d’un toxicologue, d’un parasitologue, d’un biologiste<br />
de la faune, de trois techniciens de la faune et d’un biologiste des<br />
pêches embauché l’automne dernier.<br />
Trichinella nativa<br />
Depuis le début de <strong>2014</strong>, trente-cinq morses du Nunavik et du<br />
Nunavut ont été testés pour détecter la présence de Trichinella<br />
nativa, et tous les tests, sauf un, se sont avérés négatifs. Le tableau<br />
ci-dessus présente les résultats de l’année.<br />
