Administration of Justice
The JBNQA contains an administration of justice
section. The section guarantees Nunavik Inuit
the right to have their customs, usages and
ways of life taken into account in the administration
of justice services in Nunavik.
Unfortunately, there is still a lot of work
to be done for this to become a reality.
Makivik is well aware of the problems
and challenges of the justice system.
They have been well documented
in many reports over the last 40 years.
Makivik participated and contributed to the
work of a number of committees, task forces,
working groups, etc. that all identified possible
solutions to the major issues related
to justice.
Two main themes emerged from all
the recommendations and comments
made over the last several decades about
the administration of justice in Nunavik and as reinforced by the
regional Parnasimautik consultations carried out in 2013:
• The first is the need to increase the availability of justice
services in Nunavik
• The second is the need to fully adapt those services to the
realities and needs of Nunavik
The current way of delivering justice services in Nunavik has
reached its limits. We need to restore the confidence in the justice

La CBJNQ contient des dispositions sur

aux Inuits du Nunavik la prise en compte
de leurs coutumes, leurs usages et leurs
modes de vie dans l’administration des
services de justice. Malheureusement,
beaucoup de travail reste à faire pour concrétiser ce droit.
Makivik est bien conscient des problèmes et des défis
associés au système de justice, car ils ont été bien
documentés dans de nombreux rapports au cours des
quarante dernières années. Makivik a participé et contribué
au travail d’un certain nombre de comités et groupes de
travail qui ont tous formulé des recommandations dans le
domaine de la justice.
Deux thèmes principaux ressortent de toutes les
recommandations et les observations faites au cours des
années sur l’administration de la justice au Nunavik. Ces
constats ont été réitérés lors des consultations régionales
Parnasimautik menées en 2013 :
• Premièrement, le besoin d’accroître l’accessibilité aux services
de justice au Nunavik;
• Deuxièmement la nécessité d’adapter ces services à la réalité
et aux besoins du Nunavik.
La prestation des services de justice au Nunavik dans son mode
actuel a atteint ses limites. Nous devons rétablir la confiance dans le
système de justice en faisant mieux connaître le système, en investissant
dans les infrastructures et les ressources dédiées à la justice,
