tournaments, dozens of children in each community attended
programs at the community level on most evenings from October
to late April – all depending on the community size, properly functioning
facilities, arena staff, equipments, etc.
On March 24 th 2013 in Kanata, Ontario, it felt as if barriers were
finally broken down. For seven years while developing the NYHDP,
never once before had one of our Nunavik Nordiks youth hockey
teams won a major hockey tournament down South. But on that day,
history was made as our Girls Midget Nordiks became champions at
a provincial tournament - marking a turning point for the program
and bringing a great deal of satisfaction, pride and belief among
the program’s participants, staff members and Nunavimmiut. Since
then, our Nordiks teams returned to Nunavik as champions on three
more occasions, while reaching the quarterfinals the other two
times. These accomplishments are really remarkable considering
that our groups only have a week to become a real team, to learn
enough and become adequately prepared to face teams who have
been practicing and playing together for months. Confidence, hard
work, perseverance and tenacity pay off.

Depuis cette date, les diverses équipes des Nordiks ont remporté
trois autres championnats et atteint les quarts de finale à deux
reprises. Ces réalisations sont vraiment remarquables puisque nos
groupes disposent de très peu de temps, souvent une semaine,
pour se préparer à affronter des équipes qui pratiquent et jouent
ensemble depuis plusieurs mois. La confiance, le travail acharné, la
persévérance et la ténacité sont alors bien récompensés.
Conclusion
Le PDJNH demeure un programme de grande valeur pour le
Nunavik et ses jeunes. Il faut toutefois continuer à consacrer de
grands efforts pour consolider le PDJNH et assurer son bon fonctionnement
à tous les niveaux. Makivik est fière de gérer le PDJNH
et de soutenir tous les individus qui offrent des services aux jeunes
dans le cadre du programme. Le PDJNH est financé par le volet
Ungaluk de l’entente Sanarrutik.
Conclusion
The NYHDP continues to be a great program for Nunavik and
its youth. Still, efforts must to be made to ensure that the NYHDP
keeps improving and moving in the right direction and continues
to run well at all levels. Makivik is proud to manage this important
program and will continue to provide the necessary support to
everyone involved in the rendering of services to the kids under
the program. The NYHDP is financed under the Ungaluk component
of the Sanarrutik agreement.
