After verification of income tax returns, all eligible returns
were electronically filed from one of Makivik’s three EFILE centres
in Inukjuak, Puvirnituq and Montréal. Throughout the year,
Mary K. Inukpuk and Lisa Uqaituk respond to and assist beneficiaries
throughout Nunavik with regards to any issues or inquiries regarding
personal tax returns filed.
In 2014, the Makivik Income Tax Project team was able to prepare
and process 5,850 tax returns. The overall outcome resulted
in a net refund of $8.20 million. ($3.86 million from the Provincial
Government and $4.34 million from the Federal Government) a
substantial increase from the year prior. The increase in refund can
be partially attributed to the fact that beneficiaries were encouraged
to register for direct deposit and therefore were able to benefit from
tax credits. For the upcoming tax season, Makivik encourages all
Nunavik beneficiaries to register for direct deposit service in order
to enable them to maximize their possibility of a tax refund.
The overall objective of the Income Tax Project is to provide
professional tax services to all Nunavik beneficiaries.

maximiser leurs possibilités de remboursement d’impôt.
L’objectif principal du projet est de fournir des services professionnels
de production de déclaration du revenu à tous les
bénéficiaires du Nunavik.
