disproportionate health challenges Inuit face compared
to non-Inuit Canadians. Inuit experience
comparatively lower life expectancies, high rates
of infant mortality and the highest suicide rates of
any population group in the country. The Social
Determinants of Inuit Health in Canada report is an
Inuit-specific resource designed to support public
health activities across the Inuit regions in Canada
and to function as a reference for organizations and governments
working within the Canadian health and social service sector.
As the end of this reporting year came to a close, Mary Simon,
who was instrumental in the creation of the National Strategy on
Inuit Education and the body responsible for implementing its
goals, The Amaujaq Centre, decided to step down as Chair. As the
work evolves into executing targeted projects connected with
implementation of the strategy, President Terry Audla was elected as
the new Chair by the Board of Directors to continue this important
work with communities to get our children to school every day, all
day, rested and ready to learn.

À la fin de l’exercice, Mary Simon, qui a contribué à l’élaboration
de la Stratégie nationale sur l’éducation des Inuits et à la création
de l’organisme chargé de sa mise en œuvre, le Centre Amaujaq, a
décidé de quitter la présidence. Alors que le travail est maintenant
davantage orienté vers la mise en œuvre de la stratégie, le président
Terry Audla a été élu président du conseil d’administration afin de
poursuivre cet important travail qui consiste à amener nos enfants
à l’école tous les jours, bien reposés et prêts à apprendre.
