ᑲᐅᑖᐱᒃᑯᑦ ᓯᕗᓂᖃᕈᑕᐅᓪᓚᕆᒃᑲᒥᒃ ᐱᐅᓯᒋᐊᕆᒍᑎᐅᓗᑎᓪᓗ ᓄᒃᑭᕆᐊᕈᑕᐅᓗᑎᓪᓗ ᐃᓄᑐᐃᓐᓇᓄᑦ ᐱᓇᓱᒐᖃᕐᕕᐅᓂᕐᒥᒍᑦ ᐱᒐᔭᕐᑎᓗᒋᑦ,

in Nunavik.
Uranium Public Hearings
The Makivik Corporation and the KRG have been involved
throughout the entire uranium consultation process conducted
by the Bureau d’audiences publiques sur l’environnement (BAPE) –and
the Kativik Environmental Advisory Committee (KEAC), listening
to the representations of residents and regional organizations at
pre-consultation and information-exchange phases organized in
Nunavik earlier this year. The process has served to underscore
the poor level of information available on uranium exploration
and exploitation.
The joint brief presented by the Makivik Corporation and the
Kativik Regional Government to state that Nunavik Inuit are opposed
to any uranium activities in the region.
Kautaapikkut
Again this year, considering the mining development of the
region as an important economical growth, the Makivik Corporation,
along with Nunavik regional organizations and the mining industry,
sits on the Kautaapikkut Strategy Table which plans to build
greater capacity for Inuit to be trained and employed in the Nunavik
mining sector on the short term and long term basis. The main
objectives of the Kautaapikkut are to improve and strengthen the
Inuit labour force, the partnerships and the available training and
employment programs.

• Assurer l’équilibre entre la conservation et le développement
minier au Nunavik.
Audiences publiques sur l’exploitation de l’uranium
Makivik et l’Administration régionale Kativik (ARK) ont participé
activement au processus de consultation sur l’uranium mené par
le Bureau d’audiences publiques sur l’environnement (BAPE) et
le Comité consultatif de l’environnement Kativik (CCEK), en étant
notamment à l’écoute des commentaires des citoyens et des organisations
régionales lors des phases de préconsultation et d’échange
d’informations organisées au Nunavik plus tôt au cours de l’année.
Le processus a permis de noter le peu d’information disponible
concernant l’exploration et l’exploitation de l’uranium.
Le mémoire conjoint présenté par Makivik et l’ARK affirme clairement
que les Inuits du Nunavik sont opposés à toutes activités
liées à l’uranium dans la région.
Kautaapikkut
Compte tenu de l’importance du développement minier pour la
croissance économique de la région, Makivik continue de participer
à la table stratégique Kautaapikkut en compagnie de représentants
d’autres organismes régionaux et de l’industrie minière. Kautaapikkut
vise à renforcer à court et à long terme la formation et la capacité
des Inuits dans le secteur minier en améliorant les connaissances de
la main-d’œuvre inuite, ainsi que les partenariats et les programmes
de formation et d’emploi disponibles.
