• Distribution <strong>of</strong> sapl<strong>in</strong>gs to the farmer<br />

• Compulsory enrolment <strong>of</strong> farmers <strong>of</strong> this program <strong>in</strong>to crop and<br />

livestock <strong>in</strong>surances<br />

• Compulsory micro-irrigation facility to provide to all river<strong>in</strong>e<br />

farmers through PMKSY<br />

• Institutionalization <strong>of</strong> the farmers through FPOs <strong>in</strong> the river<strong>in</strong>e belt<br />

• Sett<strong>in</strong>g up <strong>of</strong> Agri-SEZs to manage the produce from the tree<br />

plantations along the length <strong>of</strong> the river.<br />

• Tra<strong>in</strong> FPOs <strong>in</strong> manag<strong>in</strong>g and runn<strong>in</strong>g the Agri-SEZ units<br />

• Provide f<strong>in</strong>ancial compensation for the tree plantation farmers<br />

<strong>in</strong> the early years to address the notional loss <strong>of</strong> <strong>in</strong>come from the<br />

transition<br />

• As fruit production beg<strong>in</strong>s <strong>in</strong> large quantity, the State Agriculture<br />

Produce Market<strong>in</strong>g Board will assume importance as it has to<br />

ma<strong>in</strong>ta<strong>in</strong> all Government markets efficiently.<br />

• In many States, Government civil supplies outlets that stock and sell<br />

fruits will have to be l<strong>in</strong>ked with FPOs.<br />

ENSURING ADEQUATE SUPPLY OF WATER FOR DRIP IRRIGATION<br />

It is vital for the farmer to have an assured water supply, or an<br />

assured source <strong>of</strong> water to br<strong>in</strong>g up their crops. The need to ensure this<br />

has been articulated <strong>in</strong> the government <strong>in</strong>itiative called the Pradhan<br />

Mantri Krishi S<strong>in</strong>chayee Yojna (PMKSY) where every farmer’s irrigation<br />

requirement is addressed as Har Kheth Ko Pani. The PMKSY also<br />

promotes drip irrigation practices called ‘Per Drop More Crop’ ensur<strong>in</strong>g<br />

judicious usage <strong>of</strong> water thereby br<strong>in</strong>g<strong>in</strong>g down the overall demand for<br />

water.<br />
