<strong>Revitalization</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Rivers</strong> In <strong>India</strong><br />

<strong>Draft</strong> <strong>Policy</strong> Recommendation<br />

Valley liveability and result <strong>in</strong> greater economic prosperity. Goals <strong>in</strong>clude:<br />

improve the quality <strong>of</strong> life;<br />

●●<br />

<strong>in</strong>crease employment;<br />

●●<br />

create an adequate territorial plann<strong>in</strong>g with emphasis on protect<strong>in</strong>g natural<br />

and cultural heritage, biological diversity, and land. The use <strong>of</strong> renewable<br />

natural resources directly benefit local communities.<br />

The above mentioned four criteria subclasses were related to the FORECAST project<br />

(Facilitat<strong>in</strong>g the application <strong>of</strong> Output from Research and Case Studies on Ecological<br />

Responses to hydro-morphological degradation and rehabilitation) prelim<strong>in</strong>ary<br />

restoration and revitalization measures, <strong>in</strong> order to be analyzed <strong>in</strong> the next phase<br />

– Comprehensive Danube River’s <strong>Revitalization</strong> Assessment and preparation <strong>of</strong> the Best<br />

Practices Danube River’s <strong>Revitalization</strong> Manual. These measures are temporarily<br />

classified accord<strong>in</strong>g to the Environment Agency <strong>of</strong> England and Wales and the River<br />

Bas<strong>in</strong>s Management Plans <strong>of</strong> the countries represented <strong>in</strong> the project.<br />

Prelim<strong>in</strong>ary classification <strong>of</strong> measures after the FORECAST project:<br />

to improve water flow quantity;<br />

●●<br />

to improve sediment flow quantity;<br />

●●<br />

to improve flow dynamics;<br />

●●<br />

to improve longitud<strong>in</strong>al connectivity;<br />

●●<br />

to improve river bed depth and width variation;<br />

●●<br />

to improve <strong>in</strong>-channel structure and substrate;<br />

●●<br />

to improve lateral connectivity;<br />

●●<br />

to improve riparian zones;<br />

●●<br />

to improve floodpla<strong>in</strong>s.<br />

ACTIVITY 5: A PUBLIC DEBATE ABOUT THE DANUBE RIVER’S REVITALIZATION<br />

PROJECTS ASSESSMENT.<br />

DDNI Tulcea has the logistical capacity to organize a symposium (public debate).<br />

This activity will be accomplished <strong>in</strong> the next phase and its aim will be to select<br />

two projects for each subclasses <strong>of</strong> Danube revitalization and to formulate<br />

strategic guidel<strong>in</strong>es for based on their implementation results.<br />
