<strong>Revitalization</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Rivers</strong> In <strong>India</strong><br />

<strong>Draft</strong> <strong>Policy</strong> Recommendation<br />

<strong>in</strong>digenous cattle and buffalo breeds provides an opportunity to control the use<br />

<strong>of</strong> antibiotics <strong>in</strong> dairy production. TANUVAS has perfected traditional veter<strong>in</strong>ary<br />

practices to deal with various disorders and <strong>in</strong>fections <strong>of</strong> livestock.<br />

Therefore, <strong>in</strong>tegrat<strong>in</strong>g appropriate breed<strong>in</strong>g strategies and genetic improvement<br />

programs us<strong>in</strong>g the cattle breeds which are genetically resistant to <strong>in</strong>fections,<br />

with systematic application <strong>of</strong> traditional veter<strong>in</strong>ary practices such as ethnoveter<strong>in</strong>ary<br />

systems <strong>of</strong> animal treatment will def<strong>in</strong>itely pave the way for develop<strong>in</strong>g<br />

a dairy production system which is free <strong>of</strong> synthetic drug residues and antibiotics.<br />

In <strong>India</strong>, where the dairy production is one <strong>of</strong> the important <strong>in</strong>come sources<br />

for the farmers and the state, the comb<strong>in</strong>ed approach <strong>of</strong> targeted breed<strong>in</strong>g<br />

and traditional systems <strong>of</strong> veter<strong>in</strong>ary medic<strong>in</strong>e is a crucial factor to ensure a<br />

susta<strong>in</strong>able dairy production. In realization, Government <strong>of</strong> <strong>India</strong> has established<br />

a program (Gokul Mission) for promotion, conservation and susta<strong>in</strong>able utilization<br />

<strong>of</strong> Indigenous Animal Genetic Resources with emphasis on cattle genetic<br />

resources.<br />
