3. TRENDS IN WASTEWATER GENERATION & TREATMENT<br />

Change <strong>in</strong> wastewater Volumes Over the Years<br />

The system <strong>of</strong> pipes used to collect and carry ra<strong>in</strong>, domestic<br />

wastewater and <strong>in</strong>dustrial waste away for treatment and<br />

disposal is called the Wastewater system.<br />

The water consumption and wastewater generation volumes have<br />

grown, keep<strong>in</strong>g pace with the growth rates <strong>of</strong> population (Census Data <strong>of</strong><br />

population is <strong>in</strong>dicated <strong>in</strong> Table 5).<br />

However, the systems available for sanitation and management <strong>of</strong> wastewater,<br />

effluent and septage have not kept pace with this growth. This is evident from<br />

Graphs 3 & 4.<br />
