4. Govt. Lift Irrigation Projects like Ramthal Drip Irrigation Project <strong>in</strong> Karnataka.<br />

In the first model, private land owners have their own water lift<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong>frastructure<br />

to irrigate their farms adjacent to rivers. The majority <strong>of</strong> these farms are very<br />

close to rivers or just next to them because the water conveyance system holds the<br />

majority <strong>of</strong> the cost and most <strong>of</strong> the farmers cannot afford it. This small number<br />

<strong>of</strong> farmers lifts large amounts <strong>of</strong> water to irrigate a small extent <strong>of</strong> land and <strong>in</strong><br />

some places due to over-irrigation, lands are be<strong>in</strong>g turned sal<strong>in</strong>e and go<strong>in</strong>g out<br />

<strong>of</strong> cultivation. Drip Irrigation should be promoted <strong>in</strong> such private lift irrigation<br />

schemes <strong>in</strong> an aggressive way by mak<strong>in</strong>g it mandatory by distribution <strong>of</strong> f<strong>in</strong>ancial<br />
