GOVERNMENT SCHEMES<br />

OVERVIEW:<br />

The proposed recommendations <strong>of</strong> creation <strong>of</strong> tree cover on private farm lands <strong>in</strong>volves a<br />

transition for farmers from agriculture <strong>of</strong> conventional crops to organic horticulture and<br />

agro-forestry with drip irrigation. Each <strong>of</strong> these activities <strong>in</strong>volve a major transition for<br />

the farmer, with associated risks, both real and perceived. The most fundamental among<br />

them is a loss <strong>of</strong> <strong>in</strong>come until the trees come to fruition.<br />

Most, if not all <strong>of</strong> these risks / requirements can be <strong>of</strong>fset us<strong>in</strong>g exist<strong>in</strong>g Government<br />

Schemes. As on date, convergence <strong>of</strong> these schemes have rarely been achieved. But <strong>in</strong> the<br />

present context, <strong>in</strong> order to make the proposed <strong>in</strong>itiative successful, this convergence is<br />

mandatory.<br />

Although efforts have been made to shortlist all available schemes, those listed here may<br />

not be exhaustive, and it is possible that there are other exist<strong>in</strong>g schemes which may be <strong>of</strong><br />

relevance <strong>in</strong> the present context.<br />
