boundaries. To that extent, this is a conservative estimate.<br />

At least 150 million people, <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g almost 90 million Adivasis, live <strong>in</strong><br />

communities which would benefit from CFR rights recognition. There are 120<br />

districts, mostly located <strong>in</strong> the Adivasi areas <strong>of</strong> central <strong>India</strong>, where more than<br />

40 percent <strong>of</strong> the population live <strong>in</strong> villages that have forest land and which are<br />

eligible for CFR rights recognition (Fig. 1).<br />
