(Jean-Michel Aubier-F)
Thanks for a tip, Dave. Checked it today (13th) at 1928 UT. Yes, a
discussion program in Hebrew. After 1930 some ads or promos and started a
movie (?) with English soundtrack. I agree, it sounds like TV audio. As
others suggested, must be a satellite feed mixup at Moosbrunn. There seems
to be no monitoring what they actually transmit :-)
Some QRM from BBC underneath 5955.
I got some forwarded info about this and I guess this clarifies the
situation. To put it short, D Rosenzweig has identified the TV channel in
question from the audio recording. It's the audio of IBA channel 3/33
(sat/cable). They are on Hotbird and their subcarrier is used for Voice of
Vietnam program. So, as many have guessed, it must be an error at
Moosbrunn.
If this has been going on for more than two weeks now, I wonder if VOV is
paying money for nothing. Will they ever know :-)
Thanks for all involved in identifying this audio.
(Jari Savolainen-FIN, dxld / BrDXC-UK / DXplorer Nov 14)
It's Moosbrunn, registered to be relaying Voice of Vietnam 1800-2000.
Edwin Southwell noticed before the schedule changes that the A06 frequency
of 9730 was no longer relaying the VOV English service at 1700, he thought
the language sounded like Arabic and I confirmed this myself though was
not entirely sure of the language. I seem to recall DX Mix news Bulgaria
mentioning that the Voice of Vietnam relays were not being carried some
time ago but can't trace the report.
Listening to them yesterday I also thought the language at sign on sounded
more like Hebrew than Arabic. On November 4th after the first half hour in
presumed Hebrew they had an English feature on Broadway Musicals which
lasted an hour followed by another English feature on Beethoven, when I
tuned in at 1835 the next night they had an English tourist feature about
Bonaire. Perhaps there is a problem with the feed from Vietnam to
Moosbrunn.
(Mike Barraclough-UK, dxld Nov 14)
Or Moosbrunn has tuned in a totally wrong satellite downlink (gh)
In detail this concerns transponder 75 on 12.207 GHz horizontal. The TV
audio of IBA Channel 33 is audio 1058, Voice of Vietnam 1059, and so it
happens. Mistake at Moosbrunn or in the operational order from London they
are executing?
By the way, you will find on this transponder also some other broadcasters
known from shortwave.
(Kai Ludwig-D, dxld Nov 14)
This was brought to my attention on Nov 8, but I forgot to post about
this. VoV and IBA Channel 33 are on different subcarriers of the RRSAT
frequency on HotBird 8. They must be tuning in the wrong subcarrier.
(unknown)
Or Moosbrunn has tuned in a totally wrong satellite downlink (gh)
I guess all Merlin / VT brokered transmissions are fed via Bush? House
Merlin/VT control room.
So, ORF will get that wrong feed via England.? (wb)
Yes, to my knowledge this is entirely correct, including the use of Bush
House control room for VTC's own purposes (unrelated to the BBC), so
presumably the wrong audio channel had been picked up for at least two
