TAN-3 100 kW on 15335
So its appears that all RTM txions from Tangier in general were from the
VOA site. Most likely this was a sce provided by the VOA as part of the
licence.
In the ITU schedule for J-1973 Sebaa Aioun was listed as using 2x10 and
1x50 kW, all at 200 or 225 degrs.
In 1965 a strange 10 kW RTM txer was listed for Tangier on 15410 at 189
degrs, maybe a remainder from one of the commercial stns.
TAN 1-4 were 100 kW each, TAN 5-8 35 kW each, TAN 9&10 50 kW each and TAN
12&13 15 kW each (RTTY, SSB). The 35 kW units were also widely used for
RTTY. The first six txers of 50 and 100 kW were built in 1949, total cost
for the stn 1.5 million USD.
After tests as R Tanger regular VOA relays started at the beginning of
1950. Two VOA txers were operated from Algiers during the war until 1 June
1947. Possibly these were moved to Tangier. The jammer war that started
(or rather went to new heights) on 24 April 1949 prompted the western
powers to build more txs.
(Olle Alm-SWE, Jun 1, 2000)
The VOA Briech facility was phased into operation in 1993, gradually
replacing Tangier. From W98 the HFCC shows Tangier 500 kW on 11920, 15335,
so maybe the Moroccans gave up using the old VOA facility some time in
1998. Keeping those vintage txs on the air perhaps required more expertise
than the Moroccans could produce.
But I don't know, if and where RTM-MRC has access to a 42 mb antenna ? [in
order to jam RASD on v7470/v7499, wb.] The IBB Briech 500 kW tx is used
from 2200-0500, but if necessary there would be an addit reserve unit for
rent at Briech.
(May 2000)
It's a very interesting discussion about the Moroccan facilities. We
should never take it for granted that, because a stn is not heard for some
time, it has gone away, I guess! As mentioned before, I have tried many
times to hear the two listed 17 mHz freqs of RTM, but had no success.
It could be two - maybe more - years ago that I last found 17815 active.
Olle's VOA Tangier information is excellent, and Kai's memory of the site
being handed over to the Moroccan engineers when Briech was inaugurated.
I've been looking back "in time" to my old WRTH's. In 1980 RTM did'nt
appear to have a foreign sce, but had "Relays on SW" of it's HS Progr A
(National Netw) Ar via Tangiers only, using 50, 50/100 or 100 kW on 6090
6170 9540 15160 15335 15360 & 21735.
In 1970 they were using Sebaa Aioun 10 kW on 7225, Tangier 100 kW on 9165
