MALTA Der fruehere Managing Director der Voice of the Mediterranean,
Richard Muscat, muss sich mit Vorwuerfen zu seiner Amtsfuehrung bei dem
2003 eingestellten Sender auseinandersetzen. Ein Bericht des National
Audit Office (NAO), der Anfang Juli 2006 dem Parlament vorgelegt wurde,
wirft Unregelmaessigkeiten in der Mittelverwendung und Verschwendung vor.
Unter anderem habe er seinem Sohn Auftraege zugeschanzt. Muscat, der jetzt
Botschafter in Irland, sieht sich als "Suendenbock" fuer die finanziellen
Probleme der Station und betont seine Entscheidungsfreiheit und
Unabhaengigkeit.
Die Buchpruefer halten dagegen, dass die Stimme des Mittelmeers in den
letzten drei Jahren ganz aus dem Budget des maltesischen
Aussenministeriums finanziert worden sei und deshalb auch staatlichen
Regularien haette folgen muessen. Nach Einschaetzung des NAO hat sich
allerdings auch der VOM Board of Councillors als Aufsichtsgremium zu wenig
um die Belange der Station gekuemmert.

Europe, daily 2000-2200 in Dutch on 6015. Third harmonic also heard on
18045 at 2145 10 July, SIO 242.

Radio Pridnestrovie (Transdniester) celebrates its 15th anniversary today.
The station was officially inaugurated on August 3, 1991, in accordance
with the Presidential Decree. At that time it informed its listeners about
the military aggression of the Moldova's nationalists and their genocide
against the Transdniester people.
Initially, the station could be heard only locally, via the wire radio
network. Soon, Radio Pridnestrovie started producing a 40-minute news
magazine for distribution on the regional radio stations in Russia.
On March 17, 1992 Radio Pridnestrovie began broadcasting on a one-kilowatt
AM tx located at Dubossary. The major breakthrough occurred on May 7, 1992
when Radio Pridnestrovie got an access to Mayak radio transmitting center.
Several times the Moldovan nationalists tried to destroy the center.
