NETHERLANDS The Netherlands 747 Dutch public network Radio 747, which
reverts to its old name of Radio 5 in September, will continue on
mediumwave 747 and 1251 kHz, according to Ruurd Bierman, a member of the
NOS Board of Management. Earlier, the plan was to close the mediumwave
txions at the end of 2006 to save 2 million Euros a year. But after
discussions with the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science it became
clear that it was too politically sensitive.
Radio 747 / Radio 5 carries programmes aimed at minority groups in the
Netherlands. Discussions are now taking place with the Ministry about
another way of finding the money needed to keep the mediumwave txions on
the air.
A contact within Pro-Funk, Limitada (the Portuguese name for it), Carlos
Mourato CT4RK, who lives in Sines and works at the station, explained the
following after my recent comment on the possibility of spurii emanating
