The oblast comprises low, gently rolling hills and swampy lowlands; about<br />

20 percent is in mixed forest of oak, pine, spruce, beech, and hornbeam.<br />

The main branches of industry are engineering, metalworking, and paper-<br />

pulp making. A large combine at Yantarny now produces Amber, once the<br />

monopoly of the Teutonic Knights. Fishing is important along the coast.<br />

Grains, potatoes, vegetables, and dairy cattle dominate agriculture. Over<br />

three-fourths of the population is urban and the total land area is 5,830<br />

square miles with a population of 886,900.<br />

Radio Broadcasting.<br />

Kaliningrad is considered as a separate broadcast country as per the NASWA<br />

radio country counting rules. As per World Radio TV Handbook the txs of<br />

Kaliningradsky ORTPC are located at Bolshakovo that consists of 9 x 80 KW<br />

SW txs. Voice of Russia and Radio Rossii use these txs for their<br />

broadcasts to Europe. Radio Netherlands also used Kaliningrad was used<br />

last season as a relay station for their Dutch lang broadcasts to Western<br />

Europe. Most of the SW txs are used as pairs for getting a power out put<br />

of 160 KW.<br />

Apart from the SW txs, currently there are also some medium wave txs<br />

operating on 549 kHz (50 kW), 1143 kHz (150 kW), 1386 kHz (1200 kW), from<br />

Kaliningrad. Out of these the most powerful 1200 kW tx operating on 1386<br />

kHz, which is also used for international relay txions, will close down by<br />

Nov 2007.<br />

The registered freqs for broadcasts from Kaliningrad in A06 are 5925 1800-<br />

2100, 7300 1345-1900, 7330 0900-1000 and 1500-1900, 11830 1400-1700.<br />

Verification and QSL Cards can of course be obtained for txions via<br />

Kaliningrad. Reports on Voice of Russia txions could be mailed to the<br />

usual address at Pyatinitskaya, Moscow or via e-mail to <br />

Please request to include the tx location near the freq in the QSL Card.<br />

Radio Rossii also verifies reports on their broadcasts and reports should<br />

be addressed to Radio Rossii, Yamskogo Polya 5-YA ul, 19/21, 125040<br />

ST. HELENA Das Team von Robert Kipp ist der Wiederbelebung des St-<br />

Helena-Tags einen grossen Schritt naehergekommen. Beim Jubilaeum des DSWCI<br />

konnte Kipp Geldspenden aus dem DSWCI und dem JPN SW Club entgegennehmen.<br />

Ein gespendeter Transceiver (Icom IC-706MKIIG 100W) ist auf dem Weg von<br />

JPN nach Deutschland. Gehofft wird auf einen St.-Helena-Tag am ersten<br />

Wochenende im November.<br />

And Riyadh 4 MW masts at coordinates 24N29.15 46E24.18 for MW 585 kHz.<br />

SW tx location couldn't be traced yet, at 24N30 46E23.<br />
