Netherlands.
So here's a little advanced warning to put May 7th 2006 into your
calendar. On that date Radio Netherlands will be celebrating one quarter
century of Media Network on-air and on-line by bringing you a vodcast.
Where are Mike Bird, Victor Goonetilleke, Diana Janssen and Jim Cutler
these days?
We have spared no expense (actually we have!) to track them down for this
safari into the past - and future. More nx as it comes together...
(via Dan Srebnick-NJ-USA, dxld Apr 18)
NEW ZEALAND Oh, I know Rangitaiki is automated and some 300 km distant
from Wellington, but then this a kind of exception like NZL being an
exception in certain aspects of wild life too, hi! I don't know how far
the engineers must drive (?) to reach the site though.
(Carlos Goncalves-POR, dxld Apr 7)
RNZI Rangitaiki is maintained via BCL, Rotorua Branch Office. I partly
assume this is to allow parts to be flown in easily via Auckland Airport.
For shipping in a mobile SW transmitter, the Port of Napier is maybe
better (cheaper) than Auckland. However, most of NZ's inbound or outbound
shipping takes place via Auckland. BCL (corp) is part of TVNZ (crown
corp), but the exact nature of the ownership is unclear to me. BCL also
has operations in Australia providing txion sces similar to NZ offerings.
The Rotorua > Taupo > (Napier / Hastings / Clive) route is rather scenic,
but how one turns off in the Rangitaiki Ranges to reach the Rangitaiki
Council Area is a mystery to me. The Rangitaiki Ranges are as complex and
convoluted as Buller Gorge, but the roads are better. NZ road network's
great vomitorium (not me, but many people) ... the 'King Country' roads
near the Te Kooti Council Area that is North of New Plymouth.
Proposal for a 2nd SW relay in NZ:
OMAN 15375 R. Sultanate of Oman at 1652 UT Discussion between two men
in Arabic; Big Ben at 1700 followed by single chime. Extremely weak and
only intermittently readable through rushing noise on USB and severe het
on LSB, but strong and solid on // 15140.
(Bob Hill-MA-USA, DXplorer Apr 9)
PAPUA NEW GUINEA 3235 R. West New Britain 1206-1240+ Apr 14. Vocal mx,
YL ancr bewteen songs. Good S9+10 dB signal, the same as NBC on 4890.
3335 R. East Sepik 1154-1240* Apr 13. Pop vocal mx to 1158, then M ancr in
Pidgin w/island mx in background; figured this was closedown, but at about
1206, after a few mins of silence, xmsn resumed with EG talk or nx
programme // 4890; noted one ID as "Karai National Radio, the Voice of
Papua New Guinea"; finally left the air at 1240. Nice signal.
3345 R. Northern 1149-1202* Apr 14. Presumed with vocal mx, YL ancr in
Pidgin; closedown anmt at 1200, followed by anthem. Carrier stayed on past
1220. Fair signal; no sign of RRI Ternate which is usually around 3344.8.
(John Wilkins-CO-USA, DXplorer Apr 14)
PERU 3234.9, 1206-, Radio Luz y Sonido Mar 14 Spanish religious
programming at fair level. Tentative, as no ID heard.
3329.6, 1215-, Radio Ondas del Huallaga Mar 14 Interesting to listen to
this Spanish broadcast, with many mentions of Inca and 'sol'. A speech or
sermon of sorts. Again a presumed logging as no ID heard, although I left
the MP3 recorder going if possible, and these need to be studied.
