ALGERIA/WeSAHARA 1550 Tindouf(?), Algeria, Polisario Front obs'ed on
16 Jun at 0845-0900* UT, Arabic, traditional songs; 554454; the 0900 s/off
time is presumed as they were off just a few mins. after 0900 when I
TX at Tindouf-Rabuni is supposedly in the 50 ... 100 kW range. (wb)
AUSTRALIA I'm at work this morning without my handy little globe to look
at but I think an azimuth of 80 degrees from Brandon would put most of the
power across Central America. I don't know what type of antenna is in use
at Brandon (or the gain) but the effective radiated power in your
direction might be as much as 10 to 15 times greater than the 10 kW from
the tx. Some of the big curtain arrays have power gains of 100 but they
also have very narrow beamwidths. 15415 is beamed toward SE Asia so there
might be several million watts aimed at SNG but only a few thousand watts
headed to the east toward the Americas.
The ABC advises that it is in the process of upgrading its Alice Springs,
Katherine and Tennant Creek SW Local Radio sces. This work is being
undertaken to provide greater reliability of these sces. Each sce will be
required to be switched off for an extended period while replacement txs
are installed. The work on the Tennant Creek tx has now been completed and
