I guess this was a trial run via VT Merlin, just as via TDF the week
before. They are probably evaluating which one to go with from A-06 (TDF
version already registered) if not sooner.
AUSTRALIA Keith Glover RIP.
Veteran ABC Broadcaster Keith Glover passed away yesterday, Friday Feb 3.
In his long career with the ABC, Keith distinguished himself as a
broadcaster, and particularly as a Radio Australia presenter. His career
began with ABC in Queensland in 1947. Upon moving to Melbourne Keith
worked with Radio Australia for many years, broadcasting from studios in
the old 'cottage' at the rear of Broadcast House, the 'biscuit factory' in
Lonsdale Street, and finally from the new RA complex at East Burwood.
He was a consummate communicator and as presenter of Radio Australia's
'Listeners' Mailbag' became an 'interactive' broadcaster well before the
term was popularised. He received a number of awards for international
broadcasting.
Keith's voice was also well known on 'home sce' radio, presenting a wide
range of programs including nx bulletins, sporting panels, Anzac Day
marches, and Royal Tours. Keith was seen regularly on ABV Channel 2 and
presented a ballroom dancing program for a number of years.
In the latter stages of his career Keith moved into management, working as
Supervisor of RA's English Language programming and finally as Supervisor
of Radio Presentation in Victoria. Keith retired from the ABC in 1985.
I remember him presenting 'Listeners' Mailbag' which was a very
interesting programme.
Yes remember me too, especially heard RA Mailbag program on era when the
powerful Darwin site came into effect [1967?], for the benefit of the
European audience. (wb.) Feb 5
Listening to Keith and his mailbag program was one of my favorites every
Saturday AM on 9580 kHz in the mid-'60s.
RIP my friend, you were the best.
(Chris Lobdell-USA, DXplorer Feb 5)
Like all of you Keith was loved universally. He was one of the finest
broadcasters. If someone said sincere, I agree completely. In the 60s and
upto the point he went off the air I would rarely miss a Mailbag Show. On
my wedding day he greeting me and my wife and together with many members
of the staff sent me a beautiful stainless steel tray with signatures
engraved. I can hear Keith's voice ring in my mind along with the call of
the Kookaburra. A wonderful voice and a great person who made Radio
Australia become No. 1 for a number of years. May he RIP.
I feel the same as Chris L. did he said it well. Keith read my name on the
air during their Listeners Mailbag program in 1957. He was a regular
during the early Saturday mornings at our house as I was growing up. A
good friend to DXers, he will be missed.
RIP Keith...
Likewise with me, Chris. I grew up listening to Keith. He, in my opinion,
