Effective Jul 03, R Australia moved from SW broadcasting to online
technology and local FM rebroadcasting to develop new audiences in Vietnam
and Cambodia. Cambodian broadcasts will revolve around the successful
placement of Khmer content on 'third-party' FM platforms in Cambodia. The
geographic coverage will be 70% and the population contact is estimated to
reach 85%. In Vietnam, the declining popularity of SW broadcasts and the
surging demand for online sces has opened the path for a live interactive
'Australia.. Vietnam' information and cultural exchange web portal. This
sce is located at

"Delivering content via new platforms, to new audiences and providing new
styles of programming is an international broadcasting trend that is being
led by R Australia, " stated John Westland, Manager of Projects and
Partnerships. At the same time, Radio Australia is now broadcasting from
two new txs near Townsville that are digitally (DRM - Digital Radio
Mondial) capable. These txs will enable RA to trial digital SW radio to
Asia and the Pacific. DRM is under trial in China by Chinese National
Radio - 800,000 radios and 14 txs, while Radio New Zealand International
(RNZI) has trialled and is successfully implementing DRM in the South
Pacific. DRM is also being widely trialled by a number of major providers
in Europe.
RA, July 26, at random times between 0940-1400, I checked different
frequencies and heard continuous Waltzing Matilda on 5995, 6020, 9560,
9580 and 9590; 6080 had usual programming; after 1400 UTC noted 5995//6080
with RA programming, 6020, 9560 and 9580 off the air, 9590 continued on
with non-stop Waltzing Matilda.
5050 ARDS reactivates HF sce. Now at 2110 I still have the faint signal,
measured as 5049.93 kHz by Spectrum Lab. Unfortunately there is a lot of
static crashes and some East European utility stations both on USB and
LSB.
