LESOTHO [CLAND to Zimbabwe] 1197 SW Radio Africa. They announced
during their sign on that they broadcast on 1197 kHz MW and on "3230 kHz
in the 75 (sic) mb". I have checked with Richard at the station, who
thanked me for bringing it to his attention, but told me that they have no
plans to return to SW at this stage. So the station continues to be on air
only on 1197 kHz (Lesotho) from 03h00 to 05h00 UT.
Have spoken to Mr. Monyane (C.E.) about the absence of SW from Radio
Lesotho. He told me that their SW tx is over 20 years old and it is
getting almost impossible to obtain spares. However, they have decided to
get a new tx as they would like to continue SW broadcasts. He can only
order it in their new financial year which starts in April, and he expects
the new tx to be on air sometime in August / September.
LUXEMBOURG Last fall, Lisa V, Radio Luxembourg's morning DJ, assured
listeners that the new DRM receivers to pick up RTL would be out before
the end of the year. Now she says they'll be out shortly and will let
listeners know. In the meantime, the best way is to listen is via their
Internet stream
MALAYSIA Today (30 Jan) and for the past few days, RTM's domestic sce in
Tamil, Minnal FM, has been relayed for part of the local afternoon and
evening on 15295 (from before 0930 UTC, with distorted audio) and 11885
(from around 1020 UTC), both freqs continuing past 1040 UTC. The SW freqs
normally carry the external sce Voice of MLA in Malay on 15295 only until
1030, then in Chinese 1030-1230 on 15295 and 11885.
Time will tell whether this is a permanent change or just a temporary
suspension of the external sce programmes during the Chinese New Year
period. Voice of MLA in INSn is still heard signing on as usual at 1000 on
6175 kHz. Minnal FM, then called RTM Radio 6, used to be relayed 24h on
4845 kHz but that freq has been inactive for several years now.
Traxx FM is still on 7295, but with bad tx and audio problems. They were
heard 27 Jan around 0800 UT with strong open carrier and a few hours later
with heavily distorted and clipped audio. 28 Jan at the same times there
was a strong warbling noise, and barely discernible audio in the
background // with their FM network.
