CLANDESTINE (Sudan). "Darfur Salaam": The BBC World Service Trust has
launched a humanitarian radio prgm for Darfur in Sudan called "Darfur
Salaam." The 15-min. prgm includes five mins. of nx from the BBC AR svc.
Quoted sked is: 0500-0515 on 11820 and 1700-1715 on 9640, both via Cyprus.
9640, BBC-Cyprus, *1700-1715* Mar 14, intro mx, female ancr and AR ID, nn
rvw in AR.
At 1706, short HoA mx jingles and Sudanese (I think) comments by Darfur
residents lasting 2-3 mins. each and separated by more HoA jingles. At
1715 intro mx again, anmt, another ID and off. Although signal strength is
reasonable, it is wedged between Vatican-9645 and Finland-9630, both
massive signals splattering all over Darfur Salaam, making copy very
difficult. Overall, poor at best, with SINPO 31442.
(Ford-UK, dswci DXW Apr 19)
Changed and expanded its sked on Apr 3, new sked is: 0500-0516 on 9735 &
11820, and 1700-1716 on 15515 & 17585. All these times/ fqys have been
monitored and produce fair-good signal strengths on clear channels with
little or no fading. The prgm format remains unchanged, with prgmg
throughout in AR.
BELARUS A sce I had missed until this morning was coming in very well on
11930 kHz. I thought it was in Russian (I'm not so sure now!) and with
lots of mentions about things Belarussian so it must have been this
11930 0400-0700 29,30 MNS 100kW 75deg BLR RBL GFC
I recently read about poor signals/propagation of some of their sces but
this one was good. I think there used to be a morning sce later than 0700?
