ANGUILLA [and non] Defunct Gene Scott still missing, no signals from
Caribbean Beacon at 0645 Dec 4 on 6090, nor on 5030, 6150, 9725, from
Costa Rica but 7375 was on the air plus of course WWCR 5935. At 1445,
11870 CR was also audible. At 1514 Anguilla 11775 still absent.
(Glenn Hauser-OK-USA, dxld Dec 5)
There was no signal from WWCR on 5935 today (Dec.5) at 0800 tune in -
instead I could hear a weak signal from Magadan (Arman) carrying Rossii in
parallel with bubbling but strong 7200, and a unid. two-way conversation
in Italian on 5936USB. There was propagation from Stateside on 5860
(WHRI), 5890 (Marti) and about 5919.9 (WBOH).
(Noel R. Green-UK, dxld Dec 5)
We have just experienced an X9 solar flare which peaked at 1035. Knocked
out all bands completely - no signals at all on any SW band. Glad to say
that now (1100) the bands are recovering and signals are recovering back
to their former strengths. Don't get too many that wipe everything out,
luckily!
(Sean Gilbert-UK, DXplorer Dec 5)
There was a major SW fade-out this morning. SW signals were wiped out from
approx 1030-1100 UT by a solar flare but the bands seem to be almost back
to normal now (1230 UT).
MW /LW reception appears to be OK here, though it hasn't been particularly
good for long-distance DX lately. I've certainly noticed a growing amount
of local interference on MW recently, raising the general noise level on
the band, and making reception of weaker signals difficult.
AUSTRALIA 5050 ARDS Radio, Humpty Doo, at 1820-1900 on Nov 11. You
might remember in DX-Window no. 311 my comment about Dar Es Salaam 5050,
saying not as strong as Dar. Mauno Ritola told me he is hearing the
Australian station in Finland and what I heard could be it. Indeed
thrilled to hear it. Lovely tribal music, chorus singing, Aborigine music
instruments, sounds etc. Reception: fighting with the noise level. Only
50% readable.
