Efforts to repair the Voice of America Bethany Building in West Chester,
Ohio and convert it into a national museum are creeping forward. A
volunteer group working to restore the building has hired a consultant to
attract tourists. Township officials have agreed to spend about $100,000
to replace the boiler and other repairs. The VOA building is the last
remnant of a once-sprawling antenna field that was used to broadcast news
and editorials in multiple languages to nations all over the world. The
site relayed broadcasts from 1944 to 1994.

Turning the building into a museum is expected to cost about $12 million
and take more than five years, officials said.

There was more damage to the WRNO site from the hurricane than at first
thought, including to the feedline. There were difficulties negotiating
with the insurance company, but now that has been settled and repair work
is starting. Target date: April.
