Firedrake on 17350 instead of CNR-1 programming, July 22 at 1344, no doubt
jamming Sound of Hope, or where SOH is thought to be, since never a trace
of it here. This Firedrake was precisely in synch with // 9780 which is
always on at this hour to jam RTI Taiwan in Mandarin, another completely
inaudible victim in these parts. Looked around 14 and 18 MHz and did not
find any of the other SOH jammed freqs. At 1412 recheck 17350 was vacant.
I should point out that getting China direct on 17 MHz at this time of day
seems to push propagational theory. We're at solar min and a month past
solstice now, but I suppose there is enough residual ionization over this
semi- dark northerly path, not to mention wasted wattage, to sustain 17
MHz, altho not every day. Or maybe long-path.

That's a 64 min file, I guess to prove the 62-min cycle; lots of
distortion, so really off SW? But very loud. Now we never need to listen
to it again on SW.

DARC-MS and experienced BCLs (Wolfgang Bueschel, Glenn Hauser) know since
fall last year that the txions on 18... MHZ are NOT spurious. Of course,
when these first appeared we also looked on all kind of QRGs to find
fundamentals to fit for 18080 and/or 18160 kHz either as harmonics or
intermodulation.
The txions on 18... are FUNDAMENTALS. The purpose of these txions is to
jam the Clandestine stn "Sound-of-Hope" from Taiwan which is ON THE SAME
QRG.
Sometimes you can hear this program below the txions of CHINA NATIONAL
RADIO Domestic Service. It is this "Mandarin" txions reported above."

Dear friends, These days,
The China Authorities are just playing some temple mx type with gongs,
drums and instruments of percussion type, in an endless tape. No pops of
China or anyther mx or talking is observed.
All these are of course on 18180 kHz, which is an out of band freq to us.
Even today [July 26] at 0300 UTC, it was going on very strong.
Those who propound an inter modulation theory, can always get combinations
(of the many freqs) which the chinese use, to create a 18160 kHz spur.
But, that will not be a 5,9 plus 20 to 40 dB signal. hi.

ceased now except for half an hour in Faroese Saturdays at 1700 UT.
