17660.00, LIBYA jammer; 1408-1430 on 29 Jan. Big, pulsing jammer (joined a
little later by a weaker, more grinding one). No audio making it through
from the intended target, Sowt Al-amel. At least they found a reason to
use their mostly idle SW facilities.
(Terry L Krueger-FL-USA, dxld Jan 29)
?? As reported above, I was listening until Al-Amel went off at 1401, a
min after the mx jammer. Maybe this was some other situation, as Al-Amel
has not (yet?) been reported operating after 1400 UT.
Libya once erected 9 x 500kW Thomcast/ABB/BBC units, and RIZ Zagreb
Croatia once delivered 10 x 100 kW units to Libya in 1991.
17660/17665 Monitored both freqs from 1155:
17660 Tones over African mx, 1200 Arabic mx station came on with
undetermined and slightly distorted identification followed by continuous
mx.
17665 Fast tones jamming signal, 1200 Sowt-al-Amal signed on into
commentaries.
CLANDESTINES AND UNID 17660, UNID African, 1225-1430*, Feb 1st (also Jan
30th), playing African style pop mx, very nice! I was trying for new
Libyan clandestine Sowt Al-Amel and heard some "Arab mx" far back in the
background and also a lot of jamming from time to time. My guess first was
that the mx station was something intended to make interference to the
Libyan clandestine, but why jam as well??? The mx was sometimes in French
and seemed coming from Congo or similar. Help!
(Bjoern Fransson-SWE, hcdx Feb 1)
I have this to add, but not to much help I'am afraid. I listened to
17660.00 on Feb 2 from 1335 to 1429. UT. Nonstop highlife mx.Very
enjoyable and with SINPO 3-4 5 5 3 4 , getting better. At 1349 a very weak
station under was heard with arabic mx, but disappeared after a min or
two.
No jammer was heard during the whole time of listening. The station with
african mx just kept on playing their highlife mx. Nothing that even
ressembles an id was heard.
At 1408 a song which included the words "independence" and "Cameroun" , at
1410 a song probably titled "L'Afrique, c'est mon pais".
At 1429 they went off the air, without any spoken words, leaving the
frequency free from any other station, the qrg is dead, whatever antenna I
use. BTW, as a very young DX-er I didn't fancy high- life mx at all, even
called it pejorative things like "Lumumba mx". Time and life have taught
me better.
Same noted here today, strongest was continous Music stn on 17660. 17665
outlets much weaker. (wb.)
This is an interesting fqy. Yesterday (Jan 31) I noticed a stn on 17660
with a non-stop mix of Afro-Cuban-"highlife" mx here at 1400-1430. I
checked the fqy this morning (Feb 1) and found the stn opening at 1130; no
ID or anmt, it just opened with the mx. Then at 1200, what appears to be
Libya comes on with an all-AR mx b/c until 1400, blocking the Afro-Cuban
signal. Libya opens at 1200 with an anthem that seems to match the Libyan
