3.3 – Camera Angles xi
The angulations of cameras have the intention of
adding psychological and emotional impact to a scene. As we
will see, low camera angulations make the audience believe
that the subjects appear to be tall and powerful. On the other
hand, high camera angulations give the subjects a diminished
feel – as if the public is looking at them in. It can give the
public a “voyeur” feeling.
- Low Shots (in this scenario we can include the
Worm’s Eye) – give out the idea that the subject is
bigger then it really is;
- Eye-Level-Shots – carries no significance. It’s
considered a normal shot;
- High Shots (here, we can also include the Bird’s Eye)
– this type of camera placement gives out the idea that
the audience is stronger then the recorded subject;
- Canted angle shot – Empirically speaking this means
that the camera operator is tilting the camera to one of
its sides (it can be done towards the left or right side of
the recorded subject).
3.3 - Noseroom, Headroom, Leadroom and the
Three-Thirds Rule
In this part of our study we’re going to study some of
the main characteristics of camera shot composition. Here,
regarding this issue, Zettl considers that the main job is to:
“stabilize the chaotic world around us” (Id., 2000:85).
Basically, these issues are related to the placement of
the subject in front of the camera lens to address the
audiences in correct and balanced manner. About this aspect,
we can see that when we record a given subject the edges
and guidelines of the viewfinder xii seem to resemble the action
of magnets pulling the recorded issue closer to them. To differ
