IMPROVEMENT OF MANAGEMENT STAFF COMPETENCIES
IN LOGISTICS FIELD
Summary
Never before has logistics played such an important role in industrial development
as now. Major market trends, involving SCM, outsourcing, and information technology
(IT), are changing the way logistics is practiced. Increasingly, in the firms, logistics is
treated as a strategic activity and the solutions are often characterized by service directed
to customer demands, cost efficiency and a comprehensive view of the logistics
process, from raw materials to the end customer. These trends are also changing the
critical skill set needed.
Adequate preparation of managers for executive functions is an important factor
to influence companies’ competitiveness. In a dynamically changing environment once
acquired competencies do not suffice for lasting, effective operation as managers. Continuous
development of professional skills is becoming a prerequisite of success.
The paper presents the research results obtained in the frame of project „Manager’s
new era”. One hundred managers from regional companies were surveyed in order
to get an image of their attitude towards and needs for self-development. The research
results are presented in the context of logistics competence in connection with global
management trends.
