We study the charge radii of exotic nuclei through nuclear calculations
and isotopic-shift evaluations. The former ones are performed in
the framework of the DCM and the BDCM [1] for nuclei with odd
and even numbers of valence particles, respectively. These nuclear models
take fully into consideration the correlation between valence particles
as well as between valence and core particles. We will present the results
obtained for the lithium, berilium and uranium isotopes. To check the
reliability of the model, we have carried out isotopic-shift calculations
by applying the DCM to the electron subspace and calculating the fieldand
phase-shift, which characterize the isotopic-shift theory, in suitable
electronic transitions. Our calculated charge radii of the light isotopes
represent our prediction for the experiments presently being performed
at GSI [3].
Untersuchungen zur optischen nuklearen Spektroskopie in Th-
229 — •Ekkehard Peik und Christian Tamm — Physikalisch-
Technische Bundesanstalt, Bundesallee 100, 38116 Braunschweig
A 11 Photoionisation I
bewegten Heliumatomen nach He+-He St#oßen gezeigt.
In
gute M#oglichkeiten, Elektroneneinfang durch He+-Ionen an beliebigen
Targets zu untersuchen.
In a joint theoretical and experimental effort, we have investigated the
spectra of even autoionizing resonances mp 5 1/2 nl′ (l ′ = 1, 3) of the rare
gas atoms Rg = Ne, Ar, Kr, and Xe (m = 2-5). The calculations are based
on the Pauli-Fock approach and include core polarization and electron
correlation effects at a high level, as described in [1]. Two different experimental
setups, both involving a pulsed source of metastable rare gas
atoms Rg[mp 5 (m+1)s 3 P2,0] and a frequency-doubled pulsed dye laser of
narrow bandwidth in conjunction with a time-of-flight mass spectrometer
for ion detection, were used to study the even np’ (J = 1,2) and nf’(J =
2,3) autoionizing resonances by single photon excitation. The theoretical
predictions for the energies, widths and lineshapes of the resonances will
be compared with the experimental results.
Ionisation by very short intense laser pulses — •Darko Dimitrovski
and John S Briggs — Theoretische Quantendynamik, Universität
Freiburg
We investigate ionisation and excitation of H(1s) in the limit of very
short electric field pulses, analytically and numerically and both in the
limit of small and extremely large peak electric fields. A fully 3D numerical
code based on the discrete variable representation is used for
19
verification of the analytic results.
In the limit of small peak fields, and for a few-cycle laser pulse, the
total ionisation and excitation probabilities, as well as the momentum
distribution can be described well by first order time dependent perturbation
theory. The energy distribution as a result of such pulses shows a
peaked structure and depends on the shape of the carrier. Additionally,
a method for measuring the relative carrier-envelope phase is proposed.
For a half-cycle pulse, the results for the population probabilities depend
only on the momentum transferred by the field and not on the
pulse shape. For a one-cycle pulse and in the limit of very high momentum
transfer (when the atom is completely ionised after the first half
cycle) an asymptotic analytical expression for the ground state probability
is obtained. In this case the ground state probability depends on
both the momentum transferred by the field and the period of the pulse
but not on the pulse shape.
