Femtosecond time resolved mid-infrared spectroscopy has been proven
to be a powerful tool for investigating ultrafast vibrational dynamics in
biological systems [1]. For the first time we have studied the all-trans
to 13-cis chromophore isomerization in the light-driven chloride pump
halorhodopsin (hR) with a time resolution of ca. 220 fs. The vibrational
dynamics are dominated by two time constants, i.e. 1.8 and 7.5 ps. Implications
regarding the chromophore reaction kinetics [2], especially the
time constant of the 13-cis product formation are discussed. Concomitant
protein dynamics are suggested by spectral changes on a similar
time scale in the amide region. [1] J. Herbst, K. Heyne, R. Diller, Science
Cyclohexylbenzene (CHB), para-cyclohexylaniline (pCHA) and nicotine
(3-(N-methyl-2-pyrrolidinyl)pyridine) have been studied by timeresolved
femtosecond degenerate four wave mixing spectroscopy in the
gas phase. All species have a low pressure at room temperature (¡ 0.1
mbar) and therefore have to be heated to achieve an appropriate experimental
concentration. As a gas cell we have used a heat pipe oven. This
experimental technique allows to investigate gaseous samples at elevated
temperatures during a long time without window contamination problems.
The rotational recurrences of CHB and pCHA have been analyzed
in the non-rigid symmetric prolate rotor approximation. A complete fit of
the fs-DFWM spectra provides values for the rotational B0 and centrifugal
distortion DJ, DJK constants. The weak rotational recurrence feature
of nicotine is explained by its asymmetry. Also, the influence of the different
isomers of nicotine on the fs DFWM spectrum will be discussed.
How do lenses destroy ultrashort light pulses? — •Jörg
Neuhaus, Stephan Malkmus, and Markus Braun — Ludwig-
The collimation of ultrashort pulses in the fs-regime and the control
of the beam diameter often is realised with telescopes. As for ultrashort
pulses not only the phase velocity, but also the group velocity plays an
important role, the use of strongly focussing lenses can lead to undesired
spatial chirp of the pulse. This spatial chirp reduces the time-resolution
in a pump-probe experiment.
We present simulations of a pulse after propagating through a system
of lenses and by means of these calculations acquire optimal parameters
for telescopes in use. The simulations are compared with experimental
results, utilising autocorrelation and crosscorrelation measurements as a
tool for determining the spatial chirp.
Influence of linear chirped excitation pulses on the wavepaket
motion in the dye oxazine 1 — •Regina Dürr, Constanze
Sobotta, Stephan Malkmus, and Markus Braun — Ludwig-
Coherent excitation of molecular vibrations in a molecule with an ultrashort
optical pulse leads to wavepaket motion. This motion can be
recorded by pump-probe spectroscopy providing that the crosscorrelation
width of pump and probe pulse is shorter than the period of the
molecular vibration mode.
We present measurements on the dye oxazine 1 for different values of
the linear chirp of the excitation pulse. Effects on the wavepaket motion
due to negative and positive chirps are compared.
an beliebige größere Derivate anzupassen.
25% steigert.
