In diesem Beitrag
wird ein Flugzeit-Lasermassenspektrometer vorgestellt, das einen simultanen
Nachweis von NO, NO2und Ammoniak in motorischen Abgasen
Daraus
entstanden kurbelwinkel-aufgelöste Konzentrationsverläufe für NO, CO,
H2O, Toluol und O2.
A novel method for the spatially resolved ultra-sensitive and elementselective
trace analysis is presented. The main concept is based on the
combination of a commercial MALDI-TOF mass spectrometer, originally
conceived for biomolecular analytics, with a pulsed tunable laser system
for the resonant postionisation of neutrals. The analytical qualities are
pointed out, such as the mass resolution, the overall detection efficiency,
the element selectivity, the spatial resolution and the accuracy in the determination
of isotopic ratios. Furthermore, a convenient way to perform
an in situ mass calibration is explained.
In view of further applications, the methodical developments were done
using the elements gadolinium (Z=64) and uranium (Z=92), closely connected
to cosmochemical questions and to the environmental trace detection
of actinide elements in the latter case.
Bimodale Velocity Distribution of Neutral Atoms released from
Laser Ablation — •Jochen Maul 1 , Klaus Eberhardt 2 , Gerhard
Laser ablation and desorption techniques are commonly used in material
science and microanalytics. The laser ablation process itself, however,
is only partially understood. With increasing laser fluences, e.g., different
thresholds are observed, thus turning the process more and more manifold.
We present a postionisation analysis of neutral atoms released from a
metallic gadolinium target by UV-laser ablation. Using a variable delay
between ablation and postionisation, we have investigated the velocity
distribution in the ablated plume. The presented results are obtained in
the weakest regime directly above the onset for ablation where neutral
species are produced exclusively, and also in a higher regime where both
ions and neutrals are released. The results can be described by a bimodale
structure of the ablation process, involving the prompt release of
particles induced by a shockwave, followed by the emission of a thermal
vapour.
In order to probe the kinematics of the ablated ions, different kinetic
energy classes of the charged species are selected by repulsive electric
fields of different duration. Finally, the kinematics of the neutral and of
the charged species are compared.
Massenspektroskopie an optischen Gläsern und Kristallen mit
gepulster Nd:YAG-Laseranregung — •Bernhard Wiedemann
ISOLTRAP is a Penning trap mass spectrometer dedicated to the highprecision
measurement of the masses of exotic nuclides [1]. It is supplied
with radioactive ions at 60keV energy from the ISOLDE facility. The
beam conditioning stage of ISOLTRAP is situated on a high-voltage
platform. To adapt the ion cloud’s potential energy for transport to the
Penning trap setup a drifttube is switched rapidly from about 60keV to
ground potential while the ion cloud resides in it [2]. To reduce a fluctuation
in secondary-beam energy brought about by a leakage current in
the present switch setup we designed and built a new fast high-voltage
switch to replace the used asymmetric switch. The setup as well as first
results will be presented.
Das ISOLTRAP-Massenspektrometer am on-line Isotopenseparator
ISOLDE/CERN benutzt eine Penningfalle zur Bestimmung von Atommassen
bzw. Kernbindungsenergien kurzlebiger Radionuklide.
