Tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g Programme for Field Officers on crop water productivity <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g soil/water conservation, seed<br />

production and harvest<strong>in</strong>g technologies. S<strong>in</strong>ce aflatox<strong>in</strong> contam<strong>in</strong>ation is conditioned by drought stress and poor<br />

post harvest handl<strong>in</strong>g <strong>of</strong> produce, <strong>the</strong> major tenets <strong>of</strong> this technology were emphasized <strong>in</strong> this tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g program<br />

<strong>of</strong>fered through <strong>the</strong> Challenge Program Water for Food dur<strong>in</strong>g 4-6 October <strong>2006</strong> at Polokwane, South Africa.<br />

On-job tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g <strong>of</strong> field staff on field layout, data collection and data process<strong>in</strong>g; and on-job tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g for front l<strong>in</strong>e<br />

staff <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> M<strong>in</strong>istry <strong>of</strong> Agriculture from Ngabu (Malawi) on disease scor<strong>in</strong>g and data collection were conducted.<br />

Tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g <strong>of</strong> front l<strong>in</strong>e staff from Salima and Blantyre (Malawi) was organized on groundnut diseases and drought<br />

constra<strong>in</strong>ts affect<strong>in</strong>g groundnut production.<br />

Milestone D1.2.1: Alternative seed production and distribution system implemented and documented by 2011<br />

Programs for <strong>the</strong> dissem<strong>in</strong>ation <strong>of</strong> improved seed <strong>of</strong> <strong>ICRISAT</strong> mandate crops through promotion <strong>of</strong><br />

alternative seed supply systems: Participated <strong>in</strong> develop<strong>in</strong>g tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g materials for on-farm seed production course<br />

held for field <strong>of</strong>ficers implement<strong>in</strong>g CPWF-CP1 <strong>in</strong> Zimbabwe, 25–30 September and South Africa, 4–6 October.<br />

Forty tra<strong>in</strong>ees implement<strong>in</strong>g program activities ga<strong>in</strong>ed knowledge on seed production l<strong>in</strong>ked to on-farm<br />

demonstrations <strong>of</strong> crop water productivity technologies.<br />

Discussions on basic revolv<strong>in</strong>g fund <strong>in</strong>itiative was completed with Zimbabwe, South Africa and Mozambique.<br />

Agreements were reached to l<strong>in</strong>k CPWF-CP1 seed revolv<strong>in</strong>g fund with similar activities already under<br />

implementation through support from CIMMYT <strong>in</strong> Zimbabwe, and through USEBA <strong>in</strong> Mozambique. This activity<br />

will be l<strong>in</strong>ked with <strong>the</strong> community seed provision efforts through <strong>the</strong> Madzivandila Agricultural College which is<br />

operat<strong>in</strong>g with support from <strong>the</strong> Agricultural Research Council (ARC) <strong>of</strong> South Africa.<br />
