poor farmers and one <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> best way <strong>of</strong> generat<strong>in</strong>g additional <strong>in</strong>come. Dur<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> watershed program <strong>the</strong> work<strong>in</strong>g<br />

days <strong>of</strong> small farmers <strong>in</strong>creased substantially by (50%) while decl<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g trends were noticed <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> case <strong>of</strong> large<br />

Migration (rural to urban) is one <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> core issues <strong>in</strong> this region. <strong>The</strong> Govardhanpura-Gokulpura watershed has<br />

achieved high <strong>success</strong> <strong>in</strong> reduc<strong>in</strong>g migration from rural to urban areas by provid<strong>in</strong>g better employment opportunities<br />

to <strong>the</strong> farmers <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> village itself with satisfactory remunerative work (Table 7B6). In <strong>the</strong> village both seasonal and<br />

permanent migrations were significantly reduced due to watershed program. A large decl<strong>in</strong>e was noticed <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> case<br />

<strong>of</strong> seasonal as well as permanent migration and <strong>the</strong> decl<strong>in</strong>e rate was greater <strong>in</strong> case <strong>of</strong> large hold<strong>in</strong>g followed by<br />

medium landhold<strong>in</strong>g farmers. However, <strong>the</strong> sharp decl<strong>in</strong>e was noticed <strong>in</strong> all categories <strong>of</strong> farmers <strong>in</strong> permanent<br />

migration as compared to seasonal migration. Inter cross analysis <strong>of</strong> data revealed that <strong>the</strong> seasonal, as well as<br />

permanent migration <strong>of</strong> skilled labor <strong>in</strong> all <strong>the</strong> categories <strong>of</strong> farmers was reduced with a higher rate as aga<strong>in</strong>st that <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>the</strong> non-skilled labor category.<br />
