superior to that <strong>of</strong> farmers’ selections (3.4 t ha -1 ). However, for o<strong>the</strong>r traits (gra<strong>in</strong> size, days to 50% flower<strong>in</strong>g, and<br />

plant height) farmers’ selections were similar to that <strong>of</strong> breeders’ selections (gra<strong>in</strong> size: 2.3 g 100 -1 , plant height:<br />

1.9m, and days to 50% flower<strong>in</strong>g: 77 days). Breeders’ selections were more tolerant to lodg<strong>in</strong>g (Table 2). From<br />

<strong>the</strong>se results, it can be concluded that though farmers selections <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> early generations had bolder gra<strong>in</strong>s (2005<br />

archival report), with advancement <strong>in</strong> generations, breeders’ selections had high gra<strong>in</strong> yield with gra<strong>in</strong> size similar to<br />

farmers’ selections.<br />

<strong>The</strong> advanced l<strong>in</strong>es will be evaluated for shoot fly resistance. In ano<strong>the</strong>r experiment, a total <strong>of</strong> 60 entries (selected<br />

based on <strong>the</strong>ir yield and large gra<strong>in</strong>), <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g checks, were planted <strong>in</strong> RCBD with 3 replications for evaluation for<br />

gra<strong>in</strong> yield and o<strong>the</strong>r agronomic traits dur<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> post-ra<strong>in</strong>y season <strong>2006</strong>. <strong>The</strong> promis<strong>in</strong>g l<strong>in</strong>es will be evaluated for<br />

shoot fly resistance <strong>in</strong> 2007.<br />

BVS Reddy<br />

Milestone: Ten high yield<strong>in</strong>g gra<strong>in</strong> mold tolerant sorghum l<strong>in</strong>es developed for ra<strong>in</strong>y season adaptation (BVSR/RS)<br />

2010<br />

New sources <strong>of</strong> resistance for gra<strong>in</strong> mold will be obta<strong>in</strong>ed and selfed dur<strong>in</strong>g <strong>2006</strong>/07 post-ra<strong>in</strong>y season. Cross<strong>in</strong>g<br />

program will be <strong>in</strong>itiated dur<strong>in</strong>g 2007 ra<strong>in</strong>y season us<strong>in</strong>g new sources <strong>of</strong> resistance to gra<strong>in</strong> mold from germplasm<br />

and high yield<strong>in</strong>g adapted B l<strong>in</strong>es.<br />
