Milestone 5C.2.1.3: QTL for high gra<strong>in</strong> Fe and Zn identified based on F 6 RIL mapp<strong>in</strong>g populations from two crosses<br />

Plant x plant cross<strong>in</strong>g <strong>of</strong> five pairs <strong>of</strong> candidate parental l<strong>in</strong>es, was followed by head-to-row advance <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> F1<br />

hybrids and <strong>the</strong>ir parents. Phenotypic assessment <strong>of</strong> Fe and Zn gra<strong>in</strong> density <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> parental l<strong>in</strong>es, accompanied SSR<br />

marker polymorphism assessment <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> parents, and visual assessment <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> F1 progenies and selfed progenies <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>the</strong>ir parental plants, resulted <strong>in</strong> identification <strong>of</strong> four candidate populations from which F6 RIL populations can be<br />

derived to map <strong>the</strong>se traits <strong>in</strong> pearl millet, and two <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>se have been chosen for generation advance dur<strong>in</strong>g 2007<br />
