Note: <strong>The</strong> <strong>in</strong>come is based on a sample <strong>of</strong> 32 respondents and represents <strong>in</strong>come per person<br />

<strong>The</strong> <strong>in</strong>come before watershed <strong>in</strong>terventions is calculated on current market price to avoid <strong>in</strong>flation effect.<br />

<strong>The</strong> <strong>in</strong>come from livestock divided among male and female member <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> proportion <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir contribution <strong>of</strong> time<br />

for livestock management.<br />

<strong>The</strong> results <strong>of</strong> non-farm <strong>in</strong>come is <strong>in</strong> contrast to <strong>the</strong> results <strong>of</strong> farm <strong>in</strong>come. <strong>The</strong> household <strong>in</strong>come <strong>of</strong> male farmers<br />

<strong>in</strong>creased substantially <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> case <strong>of</strong> marg<strong>in</strong>al (64.0%) and small (54.1%) categories while <strong>the</strong> <strong>in</strong>crease <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> case<br />

<strong>of</strong> female farmers were higher for <strong>the</strong> same category <strong>of</strong> farmers. Overall <strong>the</strong> data revealed that <strong>the</strong> adoption <strong>of</strong><br />

watershed program enhanced <strong>the</strong> productivity <strong>of</strong> important crops and generated more <strong>in</strong>come from both farm as well<br />

as non-farm activities. Results clearly show that if <strong>the</strong> watershed activities are properly designed and implemented it<br />

can benefit all <strong>the</strong> sections <strong>of</strong> farm<strong>in</strong>g community.<br />

ii. Employment opportunities and status <strong>of</strong> migration: <strong>The</strong> watershed activities have <strong>in</strong>creased <strong>the</strong> work<strong>in</strong>g days <strong>of</strong><br />

farmers due to various activities i.e., agriculture, horticulture, floriculture, afforestation, animal husbandry and small<br />

enterprises etc. Various soil conservation measures like water storage structures, gully control structures, m<strong>in</strong>i<br />

percolation pits and gabion structures were constructed <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> village, which provided additional job opportunities to<br />

<strong>the</strong> small and marg<strong>in</strong>al farmers (Table 7B5).<br />
