Evaluation <strong>of</strong> groundnut varieties <strong>in</strong> Kolar and Tumkur districts: Table 9B5.. summarizes <strong>the</strong> yield responses<br />

<strong>of</strong> three groundnut varieties to <strong>the</strong> three management practices <strong>in</strong> Hampasandra and Kanakapura watersheds. Yield<br />

enhancement due to improved variety ranged from zero up to one tonne, with <strong>ICRISAT</strong> variety ICGS 91114<br />

produc<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> highest yields, compared to TMV 2 and JL 24. With improved management (T3), <strong>the</strong> yield <strong>of</strong><br />

groundnut doubled when compared with <strong>the</strong> farmers practice (T1). Total yield enhancement was 1.10 to 1.18 t ha -1<br />

with improved practice (T3) as compared to T1. In Hampasandra watershed improved varieties and improved<br />

management contributed 28% and 72%, respectively, to <strong>the</strong> total <strong>in</strong>crease <strong>in</strong> groundnut yield. Whereas <strong>in</strong><br />

Kanakapura watershed, relative contribution <strong>of</strong> improved varieties and management was 60% and 40%,<br />

respectively, to <strong>the</strong> total yield enhancement.<br />

Evaluation <strong>of</strong> soybean and sunflower varieties <strong>in</strong> Chitradurga watershed: Table 9B6 summarizes <strong>the</strong> yield<br />

responses <strong>of</strong> three varieties <strong>of</strong> soybean (KHSB 2, MAUS 2 and MACS 124) and four varieties <strong>of</strong> sunflower (PAC<br />

336, GK 2002, KBSH 41, and KBSH 44) to <strong>the</strong> three management practices. Soybean variety MACS 124 yielded<br />

<strong>the</strong> maximum <strong>in</strong> T2, closely followed by o<strong>the</strong>r two varieties. Total yield improvement over <strong>the</strong> farmers’ traditional<br />

practice (T1) was 50% (0.35 t ha -1 ). Improved varieties contributed 46% and improved management 54% to <strong>the</strong> total<br />

yield enhancement <strong>of</strong> soybean.[REF15]<br />

Among <strong>the</strong> sunflower varieties GK 2002 gave <strong>the</strong> highest yield, with a 52% improvement <strong>in</strong> yield due to improved<br />

management (T3) compared to farmers practice (T1). Improved varieties contributed 35%, whereas improved<br />

management contributed 65% to <strong>the</strong> total yield <strong>in</strong>crease, <strong>in</strong>dicat<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> relative importance <strong>of</strong> management <strong>in</strong><br />

enhanc<strong>in</strong>g yields <strong>of</strong> soybean and sunflower.<br />

Evaluation <strong>of</strong> maize varieties <strong>in</strong> Haveri and Dharwad districts: Table 9B7 summarizes <strong>the</strong> yield responses <strong>of</strong> four<br />

maize varieties to <strong>the</strong> different management practices for three watersheds. Variety Seedree 740 yielded <strong>the</strong><br />

maximum <strong>in</strong> both <strong>the</strong> T2 and T3 treatments, followed by Proagro 4642. As <strong>the</strong> farmers <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> region are already<br />

grow<strong>in</strong>g improved cultivars <strong>of</strong> maize, total yield <strong>in</strong>crease <strong>in</strong> T3 treatment was only 28% (1.26 t ha -1 ) over <strong>the</strong><br />

farmers current practices, which yielded an average <strong>of</strong> 4.5 t ha -1 . Improved management contributed 89% to <strong>the</strong> total<br />

yield <strong>in</strong>crease.<br />
